Prompt: How has completing the annotated bibliography changed or clarified your understanding of your research topic? Discuss how your sources connect to one another and how they are shaping your argument moving forward.

Prompt Response: Completing my annotated bibliography has clarified my understanding of my research topic. My research topic is mostly one sided because most sources found that immigration policies are not as effective as hoped. My sources all provide information on the ineffectiveness of these policies in different parts of the immigration situation such as the detention centers, the unaccompanied youth, etc. They all give me all the more reason to write that immigration policies are ineffective since the majority of the sources are saying that. Moving forward I will stand with the side that says that immigration policies are ineffective due to there being more sources that agree with that stance.  Summary: We aimed to finish our annotated bibliographies today. Reflection: I got a good chunk of the annotated bibliography finished today.

Prompt: Which part of the annotated bibliography (summary, reflection, or evaluation) was the most challenging for you, and why? Explain how that challenge helped you grow as a researcher and how it will help you when writing your research paper.

Prompt Response: I found that the summary was the most challenging for me because it required me to skim each source while also trying not to make any mistakes. This challenge helped me grow as a researcher as it helped me improve on skimming and also my summarizing skills. Skimming is important as it will help me find the adequate information from my research paper. Summarizing will also help me get my points across with the information gathered from the sources. I also found the evaluation part as the most tedious to do. Summary: The class began writing their annotated bibliographies. Reflection: The evaluation part of the annotated bibliography was tedious to do because finding information on the author of each source was a hassle.

Prompt: As you gathered sources, you were expected to find multiple perspectives on your topic. What differences did you notice between your sources? Explain how these differences helped you better understand the complexity of your issue.

Prompt Response: As I continued to find more multiple perspectives on my topic, I found that most of the sources were on one side while only a few were on the opposing side. I only found a couple that were on the opposing side of the topic. It showed me that my group's topic has a majority on one side compared to the other. It helped me understand that policies regarding immigration are not as effective as everyone would hope. There are definitely things that could be done better with immigration policies and things that could be improved on.  Summary: The class continued finding sources for their group folders. Reflection: It was difficult finding sources for the other perspective because most agreed that immigration policies are mostly ineffective.

Prompt: Think about your experience using GALILEO to find sources. How was this different from how you have searched for information in the past? Explain how using specific search strategies and evaluating sources impacted the quality of what you found.

Prompt Response: I feel that it was sort of a hassle to use because sometimes I would find a source that would align with my topic but when I would click on the source, it wouldn't have a document and would just be an abstract. Using specific search strategies such as search phrases and filtering your search help significantly when trying to find sources. Filtering sources makes sure that you only find sources you are looking for. Search phrases make finding sources easier and quicker. Evaluating sources also helped me a ton because there were many times I found a source with a title that matched my topic but in the abstract it would talk about something that was not so helpful. Summary: In class we began gathering sources for our group folder. Reflection: Galileo is a useful website but I also feel that it could be better. As stated before, I would find sources that would only contain an abstract without an actual document.

Prompt: Political cartoons often use exaggeration and symbolism to make a point, and they can also serve as important visual sources for analysis. What is being criticized in this image? What does this source suggest about the issue, and what does the cartoonist want the audience to question or reconsider?

Prompt Response: Trump and his administration is being criticized in this political cartoon. The political cartoon shows Trump pointing into the vast ocean while proclaiming that Iran is attacking Israel while to his left an ice agent is shown beating uncle Sam who is under a bill. This political cartoon shows how Trump and his administration's decision are hurting America as a whole and attacking America's ideals and foundational ideas. Also showing how trump is trying to distract people from this by pointing out other issues like the international issue happening between Iran and Israel. This cartoonist wants the audience to focus on what is happening in America due to Trump's leadership and question if whether he is an ideal president for America and America's beliefs. Summary: Today in class we analyzed sources and the different kinds of sources. Reflection: I believe I know the different types of sources.

Prompt: Think about how you have searched for information in the past compared to what you practiced today. How is creating specific search phrases different from just “Googling” a topic? Explain how this strategy will improve the quality of your research.

Prompt Response: In the past I would just search up the topic word for word. In class we had to come up with phrases and I think compared to copying the topic word for word, It gave way more sources. Creating specific search phrases allows one to find more sources than just googling it. It would also most likely find more accurate sources. This strategy will allow us to find many sources and ensuring they are relevant to our topic. Summary: The class was assigned a commonlit today. Reflection: I was not here in class today.

Prompt: Your research question is designed to explore a complex issue. What makes this topic difficult to answer or solve? Identify at least two different perspectives or factors related to your topic and explain why understanding multiple viewpoints is important.

Prompt Response: This topic is difficult to answer because it is very controversial and doesn't have an easy fix. Two different perspectives related to our topic are that current U.S immigration policies are not effective and that current U.S immigration policies are effective in addressing migration problems. It's important to address and understand multiple different perspectives because it gives a fair representation of the situation as a whole and reduces bias.  Summary: Today we got assigned to our groups and our topics. Reflection: The topic my group is sort of tough.
